May Lindstrom Vitamin C
May Lindstrom's Plant Based Products are "The Best in the World"

What do Gwyneth Paltrow, Cindy Crawford and a ton of supermodels in NYC have in common? They're all using May Lindstrom skincare products. The luxurious, nutrient-rich organic line launched at Space NK, and contains the finest blend of plant oils, minerals, and herbs—all housed beautifully in recyclable glass packaging. It's the brainchild of chef turned beauty lover May Lindstrom, who uses plant ingredients to create cult beauty products.
The hero product? "One hundred percent, it has to be The Blue Cocoon," said Lindstrom, when we caught up with her at the Space NK store in Kings Cross. Blue Cocoon was launched back in 2013 and harnesses the power of blue tansy, which Lindstrom hails as "the most powerful plant ingredient in the world." It's seriously calming, and is perfect for rebalancing inflamed and irritated skin.
All the brand's products work to feed, nourish and heal the skin. They're designed for all skin types but work especially well for sensitive skin. "Before launching my own brand, I made bespoke formulations out of my kitchen for people who had some kind of skin trauma (from chemotherapy to severe acne), so it's important that my products really work and don't irritate the skin in any way," says Lindstrom.
But does this sensitivity barrier limit the products' effectiveness? "Absolutely not," she says. "The plants I use are truly the most powerful out there. You could sit in a lab for years and try to reformulate blue tansy; it can look like blue tansy and smell like blue tansy, but will it ever work like blue tansy? No, it just won't," says Lindstrom.

Each product is made and hand-poured out of Lindstrom's private studio in Los Angeles. The brand's commitment to producing small batches helps to ensure freshness. "A plant-based facial oil is great and everything, but if it's been sat on a shelf for six months before even reaching the store, it's not going to do anything for your skin," Lindstrom tells us. This is why you'll find the date it was made, the batch number and the expiration details on the bottom of each product.
May Lindstrom skincare doesn't come cheap, though. In fact, a tub of The Blue Cocoon alone will set you back $180, but Lindstrom thinks finding the one right product for you will save you money in the long-term. "For me, it's not about launching a bunch of new products you don't actually need. My products are expensive, yes, but I truly believe they're the best in the world. I use The Blue Cocoon on my face as a serum, on my eyes, on my eczema, and on my kids when they get bug bites or sunburns. Sure, I could repackage it and sell it as a 'brand-new eye cream,' but I'm not going to do that because I'm not a jerk," says Lindstrom.

The first thing you'll notice about this creamy mask is just how incredible it smells. "It actually tastes really good too," says Lindstrom (we wouldn't advise eating it, though). Use it alone on dry skin for up to 60 minutes as a clarifying mud mask, or use a pea-sized amount on wet skin as a milky everyday cleanser.

"I love this, as I find the scent really grounds you," says Lindstrom. Its application is easy: Start by applying four to six pumps to the skin and gently massage the product all over. Next, drape a steamy hot cloth over your face for a few seconds and let the steam open your pores even more. Finally, sweep away any residue in an upward motion.

"People always think, Oh, it's called The Youth Serum; it must be one for my mum, but that's totally not the case with this," Lindstrom says. "I would recommend this to every single person I know—even people with oily skin—as it rebalances skin like nothing else." Created with a blend of 20 essential oils and coenzyme Q10, this serum works to plump the appearance of the skin. It also calms blemishes and soothes sensitive areas.
